Ingredients
  

Pudding Base

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions
 

  • Combine dry ingredients: In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt until evenly mixed.
  • Add the milk: Slowly whisk in the milk until the mixture is smooth and no lumps remain.
  • Cook until thickened: Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, whisking constantly, until the pudding thickens and begins to bubble, about 5–7 minutes.
  • Finish with butter and vanilla: Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract until smooth and glossy.
  • Chill or serve: Pour the pudding into serving bowls. Serve warm or cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour for a chilled dessert.
