Pudding Base
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp butter
Combine dry ingredients: In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt until evenly mixed.
Add the milk: Slowly whisk in the milk until the mixture is smooth and no lumps remain.
Cook until thickened: Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, whisking constantly, until the pudding thickens and begins to bubble, about 5–7 minutes.
