Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp red food coloring or more for desired color

Instructions
 

  • Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add Wet Ingredients: Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until fully combined.
  • Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Make the Dough: Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix just until combined.
  • Chill the Dough: Cover and chill the dough for about 30 minutes to help control spreading.
  • Bake the Cookies: Scoop dough onto a lined baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes until edges are set.
  • Cool and Enjoy: Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a rack.
